Is Munich Safe?
Munich is consistently ranked among Europe's safest major cities — low violent crime, efficient police presence, and an orderly public culture make it exceptionally comfortable for solo travelers of any age. Relax and explore freely.
The one exception is Oktoberfest, when pickpockets increase sharply in the crowded tents — that's the one time heightened vigilance is genuinely warranted. Otherwise, the U-Bahn runs late on weekends and can be used with confidence.

Common Scams & How to Avoid Them
Oktoberfest pickpockets — crowded tents are prime territory. Use a money belt and leave valuables at the hotel.
Tourist restaurant overcharging — ask to see the menu with prices before sitting; the Marienplatz area is worst.
Fake charity collectors with a clipboard approach near major sights — politely decline.
Unofficial airport taxis — use the S-Bahn or book via app; only take licensed taxis from the official rank.
Health & Medical
Dial 112 for all emergencies — English is widely spoken. LMU Klinikum and MRI hospital offer world-class care. Apotheke (pharmacies) are plentiful with English-speaking staff in central areas. Tap water is excellent quality throughout the city. EU EHIC is accepted; travel insurance is still recommended.
Solo Women Travelers
Munich is one of Europe's best cities for solo women travelers, routinely listed in top-10 European rankings for female solo safety. Café culture is friendly to solo diners — women eating or drinking alone attract zero negative attention. The only exception: Oktoberfest tents can get aggressively rowdy in the evening — visit in the morning or early afternoon instead.
