Is San Sebastián Safe?
San Sebastián is consistently ranked among Spain's safest cities, and solo travelers — including women traveling alone — routinely describe it as comfortable to explore independently, day or night.
Violent crime against tourists is very rare. The realistic risk is limited to occasional opportunistic pickpocketing in the busiest Parte Vieja pintxos bars and on La Concha beach during peak summer season.

Getting Around Safely

Taxis are metered and safe to hail via app or from official ranks throughout the city.
Common Scams & How to Avoid Them
Unofficial pintxos "tours" sold on the street sometimes overcharge for a self-guided experience easily done independently — book through a recognized local operator instead.
A handful of Parte Vieja bars quietly charge tourists more for the same pintxos locals pay less for — point at what locals are ordering to avoid this.
Health & Medical
Tap water is safe to drink throughout the city. Pharmacies (green cross sign) are plentiful and can help with minor issues without an appointment. Hospital Universitario Donostia is the city's major hospital.
Solo Women Travelers
San Sebastián is an exceptionally comfortable city for solo travelers, including solo women — its entire pintxos bar culture is built around standing solo at a counter, and the compact center is easy to navigate confidently at any hour. Standard precautions apply in the busiest Parte Vieja crowds late on summer weekends — otherwise the city is comfortable to walk unaccompanied well into the evening.
