🌡️
Kansas City in June and July is hot. Average highs of 87–92°F with humidity. Arrowhead is open-air. Hydrate before arriving, dress light, and arrive early enough to be in your seat before the worst heat of the afternoon. The June 16 Argentina vs. Algeria match kicks off at 9 PM CT — cooler, but check for evening thunderstorm potential.
🎒
Clear bags only. Max 12"×6"×12". No backpacks. FIFA's policy is stricter than standard Chiefs game policy. Argentina match days will have the longest security lines — arrive at least 2 hours before kickoff for those matches.

Argentine fans from across the Midwest — Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston — will converge on Kansas City for this match. Crossroads Arts District
Creative hub — best bars and restaurants
Kansas City's most dynamic neighborhood — converted warehouses turned into galleries, restaurants, and bars along 18th and 19th Streets. The Crossroads is where First Fridays bring 100+ artists and thousands of visitors monthly. On the KC Streetcar line. The neighborhood will be the epicenter of World Cup energy for non-stadium match day watching.

Downtown KC's entertainment district — a multi-block open-air complex with bars, restaurants, live music, and giant screens. Perfect for watch parties and pre-match energy. On the KC Streetcar line near the Sprint Center. The Power & Light District will likely host official World Cup watch party programming given its infrastructure for large crowds.

Westport
Historic — Kansas City's oldest entertainment district
Westport is Kansas City's oldest bar district — a 19th-century neighborhood that has evolved into one of the city's most reliably active nightlife areas. Dense with independent bars, live music venues, and restaurants along Pennsylvania and Westport Road. Less polished than Power & Light but more authentic. A Westport bar on a late Argentina night match will be memorable.

Country Club Plaza
Upscale — Spanish architecture, shopping, dining
The Country Club Plaza is one of America's first planned shopping districts — Spanish-inspired architecture, fountains, high-end retail, and a strong restaurant scene. KC's most visually distinctive neighborhood. The Streetcar's southern terminus. Quieter than Crossroads but with excellent dining options and Kansas City's most recognizable non-stadium backdrop.

River Market
Historic market district — riverfront, farmers market
Kansas City's oldest commercial district on the Missouri River — home to the City Market (one of the Midwest's largest outdoor farmers markets), ethnic restaurants, and a growing bar and restaurant scene. The Streetcar's northern terminus. For visitors who want a different side of Kansas City between matches, River Market delivers it.

18th & Vine Jazz District
Historic jazz heritage — Charlie Parker birthplace
Kansas City is the birthplace of bebop — Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and the Kansas City jazz tradition originated here. The 18th & Vine district has the American Jazz Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and live jazz clubs. A genuine cultural experience that most World Cup visitors won't reach but should. A short Uber from the Crossroads.

Where to Eat

Kansas City does two things at a world-class level: barbecue and jazz. The BBQ alone justifies the trip. Beyond that, the city has a legitimate restaurant scene anchored by the Crossroads and Country Club Plaza that will surprise most visitors who arrive expecting nothing more than ribs.

Kansas City BBQ — The Thing
BBQ · West Bottoms
Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que
Consistently ranked among the top BBQ restaurants in the country — burnt ends, ribs, pulled pork, and the Z-Man sandwich (brisket, provolone, onion rings on a Kaiser roll). The original location on Mission Road in Kansas City, Kansas is the classic; the West Bottoms spot is downtown-adjacent. Arrive early — queues form before opening and it sells out. This is the non-negotiable Kansas City meal.

Q39
Chef Rob Magee's contemporary take on Kansas City BBQ — craft cocktails alongside competition-quality smoked meats in a proper restaurant setting rather than a roadside joint. A more comfortable experience for groups or those who want serious BBQ without the counter-service format. The brisket is exceptional. Good for a proper sit-down dinner the night before a match.

Crossroads · Modern American
Crossroads Dining
The Crossroads Arts District has the highest concentration of independent restaurants in Kansas City — The Farmhouse (farm-to-table), Voltaire (French-American bistro), and dozens of others across 18th and 19th Streets. For visitors who want to eat well beyond BBQ, spend an evening in the Crossroads. The pre-match energy here on Argentina week will be electric.

Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue
Kansas City's most polished BBQ experience — white tablecloths, a proper wine list, and competition-quality burnt ends, ribs, and lamb. Jack Stack has been serving Kansas City since 1957. The Country Club Plaza location makes it a natural stop on an afternoon exploring the neighborhood. The only BBQ restaurant in the city where making a reservation makes sense.

River Market · Latin
City Market Latin Food
Kansas City's City Market has a strong Latin American food vendor presence — particularly relevant for Argentina vs. Algeria week when the Argentine and Algerian communities in the region will be present in force. Tamales, empanadas, pupusas, and fresh produce at some of the best prices in the city. Best experienced on a Saturday morning when the full market is operating.

18th & Vine · Jazz & Soul
Jazz & Soul Dining
The 18th & Vine District has restaurants serving Kansas City soul food, Southern BBQ, and music alongside the jazz clubs. Stopping for dinner in this neighborhood before going to a live jazz set at The Blue Room is the most authentically Kansas City evening available to World Cup visitors — and one that most won't think to seek out. The combination is exceptional.

Kansas City BBQ is one of the great regional food traditions in the United States — low-and-slow smoked beef brisket, burnt ends, and pit-smoked ribs in a style distinct from Texas, Memphis, or the Carolinas. Have at least one proper BBQ meal here. It's why people fly in from New York on regular weekends.
Fan Events

Fan Zones & Festival

Kansas City's fan programme centers on the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial — one of the most distinctive fan festival settings of any host city in the tournament — plus the ConnectKC26 Region Direct service connecting fans to city-wide events.

01
FIFA Fan Festival™ Kansas City — National WWI Museum & Memorial

Throughout the tournament
Downtown KC's entertainment district will be running World Cup watch parties throughout the tournament — large screens, extended hours, and the natural gathering point for fans without stadium tickets. The venue's existing infrastructure handles large sports crowds regularly. For Argentina vs. Algeria (June 16), the Power & Light will be one of the most energized public spaces in the city.

Before You Go

Essential Tips

Ten things that will make your Kansas City World Cup experience significantly better.

01
Buy ConnectKC26 Passes Early
The Stadium Direct bus ($15 round trip) and Airport Direct (free) both require a ConnectKC26 pass purchased in advance at connectkc26.com. Don't assume you can buy at the door on matchday. For Argentina vs. Algeria, demand will be exceptional — get your pass the moment they go on sale.
02
Eat Kansas City BBQ — Properly
Joe's Kansas City and Q39 are the two best starting points. Joe's requires arriving early and waiting; Q39 takes reservations and is easier for groups. But don't leave Kansas City without a proper burnt ends and ribs meal — it's one of the defining American regional food experiences and it's what this city does better than anywhere on earth.
03
Book Accommodation for Argentina Week Now
Argentina vs. Algeria on June 16 will bring fans from across the Midwest and internationally. Hotels in Crossroads, Power & Light, Country Club Plaza, and near Union Station will be at their most expensive and limited. June 25–27 (Netherlands and Algeria matches) is the second crunch. Book immediately.
04
The KC Streetcar Is Free
The Kansas City Streetcar runs 5.7 miles from River Market south to Crown Center — free, no app, no card needed. Use it to get between downtown neighborhoods, reach the Fan Festival, and connect to the ConnectKC26 system. It's the most useful single transit tool for getting around Kansas City.
05
Argentina Arrives from Dallas
Argentina also plays in Dallas (June 22 and June 27). If you're planning to follow Argentina across multiple matches, the Dallas → Kansas City combination is manageable — a 9-hour drive or 1.5-hour flight. Kansas City's June 16 opener and Dallas's June 22 Austria match are both achievable on the same trip.
06
Late Night Matches Require Planning
Algeria vs. Austria on June 27 kicks off at 10 PM CT — finishing around midnight. The Round of 32 (July 3) and Quarterfinal (July 11) both kick off at 9 PM CT. Confirm ConnectKC26 return bus times before you go in — late service may be limited and rideshare surge pricing after midnight will be severe.
07
Visit 18th & Vine
The 18th & Vine Jazz District has the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum — two of the most significant cultural institutions in American sports and music history. Both are in the same neighborhood, walkable from each other, and unlike anything else accessible to World Cup visitors anywhere in North America. Spend an afternoon here.
08
Register for Fan Festival Passes Early
The FIFA Fan Festival at the WWI Museum is free but requires a digital pass, capped at 25,000 daily. Argentina match days will hit capacity first. Register at kansascityfwc26.com as soon as passes are available — particularly for June 16 and surrounding days.
09
Kansas City Heat Is Real
Average highs of 87–92°F in late June and July. Arrowhead is open-air. Evening kickoffs (8–10 PM CT) help with heat but thunderstorm potential increases. Check the forecast before every match. A light compact poncho and sunscreen for the security queue are worth packing.
10
Verify Everything at kansascityfwc26.com
Transportation updates, Fan Festival schedules, ConnectKC26 routes and pass prices, and matchday road closure details are all updated at kansascityfwc26.com and kc2026.com. Always check before matchday — particularly for the Quarterfinal on July 11.
