All-New City Guides: A Fresh Look, a Pocket Guide in Every City, and Still Free

Every GoingSolo.Life city guide is getting a rebuild, with a new look, a new pocket guide you can take with you, and a map in every city. Everything will go live by the end of November, and every guide will stay completely free.

What’s changing

The guides you know are moving to what we’re calling the 2027 Edition. You’ll spot the new ones by the badge on the City Guides page. Here is what’s new on each page:

  • A new look. The guides now match the rest of the site, with the same header, clean typography, and a layout that reads well on a phone and a laptop.
  • A fresh 48-hour plan. Each city gets a revised two-day itinerary, an updated “Where to Eat” section, backup plans for rainy days, neighborhood notes, and a month-by-month calendar.
  • A “Did you know?” story. Every guide now includes one short, true story about the city that you can tell at dinner, from the world’s oldest restaurant in Madrid to the 9,000-year lease on the Guinness brewery in Dublin.
  • Solo-traveler safety, built in. Each guide rates neighborhoods at a glance and covers common scams, health basics, and tips for traveling alone.
  • An interactive map. Each guide includes a QR code and link that opens a map with every stop on the itinerary.

The new 48-Hour Pocket Guide

Every city now has its own 48-Hour Pocket Guide, a short PDF you can save to your phone or print and fold into a bag. It includes the highlights of the full guide: the two-day plan, where to eat, getting around, safety, and the calendar. A QR code on the last page opens the interactive map. It works offline, so you can access it even when the hotel Wi-Fi isn’t available.

You’ll find a “Download the 48-Hour Pocket Guide” link near the top of each updated city guide.

More from each city

The City Guides page now links each city to all of our stories about it. If you’re headed to Rome, you can open the guide and then browse every article we’ve written about Rome in one place. Places we’ve written about but haven’t yet built a full guide for appear in a separate “More destinations” section.

The timeline

We’re updating the guides city by city, in batches, and we’ll refresh every guide by the end of November 2026. Until a city’s turn comes, its current guide stays up and works as before. When a city is updated, it moves to the front of the City Guides page with its 2027 Edition badge, so you can see what’s new.

Still absolutely free

Nothing about the price is changing. The city guides, pocket guides, and maps are free to read and download, with no sign-up, no email wall, and no paid tier. We built GoingSolo.Life for people traveling on their own, and the planning shouldn’t cost extra on top of the trip.

If you want to support the work, the best ways are to share a guide with another solo traveler, subscribe to the newsletter, or pick up one of our books. If you notice something that has changed since we wrote it, like a closed restaurant or a new price, get in touch, and we’ll fix it.
